Segno is a free music player for Windows, made by Feras Hania. This page explains what the Segno app and this website do with information about you.
The app collects nothing and has no account. This website counts visits and download clicks without knowing who you are, and keeps your email only if you sign up, only to tell you about Segno.
The Segno app
Segno has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. It doesn't send crash reports or usage data anywhere. Segno has no server of its own, so nothing is ever sent to me.
What stays on your computer
Segno keeps these on your computer, and only there:
- your settings, playlists, loved songs and queue
- your list of downloads
- saved cover art and songs you played online, so they load faster next time
- a list of the last 300 songs you played, kept for a future feature that suggests music
To remove all of it, uninstall Segno and delete the Segno folders in %APPDATA% and %LOCALAPPDATA%.
When the app uses the internet
- Music sites. When you search, play or download from YouTube or another site (like SoundCloud or Bandcamp), or paste a link, Segno gets it from that site through a tool called yt-dlp. That site sees the request the same way it would from your browser, including your IP address.
- Spotify links. Segno reads the public Spotify page to get the list of songs, then finds those songs on YouTube.
- Pictures. Covers and thumbnails load from the sites they come from.
- GitHub. Segno checks GitHub for new versions about every 3 hours, and downloads updates, yt-dlp and Deno (a tool yt-dlp needs) from GitHub when needed.
Those services have their own privacy policies: Google (YouTube), Spotify, SoundCloud, Bandcamp and GitHub.
This website
- Hosting. This site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles technical data about each visit, such as your IP address, browser and the pages you open, to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- No cookies or ads. No cookies, no ads and no tracking pixels. Fonts, pictures and QR codes all come from this site.
- Visitor counts. This site uses Umami to count visits and download clicks. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't follow you to other sites and doesn't store your IP address. It shows me totals, like how many people visited, from which countries and devices, and which sites linked here, never who you are.
- Download clicks. When you click a download button, the site notes the time and which button you clicked in my Google Sheet, so I can count downloads. Nothing about you is sent.
- One note in your browser. After your first download, the site saves a small note in your browser (local storage) so the support popup only shows once. It never leaves your browser.
- Downloads. The download button links to GitHub, where Segno's files are hosted, so GitHub sees that request.
The email list
If you sign up, your email address and the time you signed up are saved in a Google Sheet that I own, through Google Apps Script. That means Google stores it for me (see Google's privacy policy).
- I use it only to email you about Segno, like when the Linux version or a big update comes out.
- I never sell it or share it with anyone.
- To be removed, email feroomon10400@gmail.com or reply to any email I send. I'll delete your address.
- I keep it until you ask me to remove it, or until I stop the list.
Donations
Crypto donations are recorded on public blockchains, where anyone can see the address, amount and time. I don't learn your name from a donation, and I don't link donations to the email list.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, or in California), you can ask what information I have about you, ask me to correct or delete it, or object to how I use it. The only personal information I hold is your email address, and only if you signed up. Email feroomon10400@gmail.com and I'll handle your request within 30 days.
For the email list, I rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. For keeping this website running and safe, I rely on a legitimate interest.
Children
Segno and this website aren't aimed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect their email addresses. If a child under 13 signed up, email me and I'll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
